Calligraphy Guild Blog Tour // Interview with Ryuu

Hey, TWNers! *cough* Okay so if you’ve been following the blog tour for R.M. Archer’s latest release, you might’ve noticed a certain someone was supposed to post yesterday. Y’all I have no idea what’s happening to me. I never forget about these blog tours and now this is the SECOND time I’ve forgotten in the last couple of weeks. *facepalm* I think it’s official, I’ve either lost my mind or should REALLY start writing things down. Personally, my vote is for the former. But I guess better late than never!!! Today I have the honor of participating in R.M. Archer’s blog tour for *drumroll*  CALLIGRAPHY GUILD!!!!! You may remember when I did the cover reveal for it earlier this year. If not, let’s refresh your memory!

Dragon ink gives calligraphers the power to set history in stone—or to change it.

Lai Duyên’s dreams are realized when she’s admitted into the ranks of the calligraphers, authors considered trustworthy enough to defend time from those who would change it. She’s thrilled at the opportunity to record her country’s history, and to work with the other calligraphers in her village.

But when Duyên’s guild is set upon by ancient dragons demanding a time-changer be destroyed, her world is flipped upside down. Her guildmates turn on each other, suspicion coloring their every move. To make matters worse, she’s begun hearing the dragons in her head and finds them impossible to block out: a condition that rendered her grandmother insane.

With the calligraphy guild in turmoil and Duyên’s ever-present fear of madness clouding her vision, will the group be able to discover which of their guildmates has altered time before the dragons pass judgment on them all?

EEEEK ISN’T THAT SO EXCITING!!!!!! Especially cuz in this book, there be dragons! (I know, we’ve already discussed this before so you know my love for dragons in books. XD) Now today I am interviewing a FANTASTIC character in this book. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the one, the only, RYUU!!!!

#1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Tanh Ryuu. I’m a calligrapher, a brother, an uncle, and I try to be the humorous friend everyone needs. Not sure I always fill that role as well as I intend, but hey, it’s a work in progress.

#2. What’s your favorite hobby?

I play the pipa; that’s probably my favorite. It’s great for relaxing by myself or hanging out with friends, and you can’t really go wrong with music.

#3. How would you describe yourself?

Loyal, fun, charming of course, incredibly talented… *grins* Truly, though, a little mischievous when the situation calls for it.

#4. Which do you prefer: reading or writing?

Writing. I have trouble sitting still long enough to get immersed in a book. It’s a bit easier if I’m listening to someone else read, like Duyên-Mera, but writing comes much easier.

#5. What do you think about the Calligraphy Guild?

I love the guild. It’s like a second home and a second family. I really don’t know how to describe it better than that. It’s always full of laughter and community and encouragement and shared passion for writing and history, plus a bit of light-hearted ribbing and the occasional argument that gets worked out pretty quickly… It’s really just family.

#6. Who would you say is your best friend and why

Duyên-Mera, first of all. She and I got off on the wrong foot, actually, when I stole her ocarina and an ill-advised getaway attempt ended up with the ocarina in pieces in my chest… but we made up after that, got to know each other better, and over time we’ve become… well, more than best friends, really. I’m looking to marry her when things settle down around the guild.

#7. What’s your greatest fear?

Fear? Pfft. Who needs those? *chuckles* I try not to think about mine.

#8. How do you feel about the word “dragon”?

*grins* I love dragons. I’m not sure I have specific feelings about the word itself, but the creatures are amazing. They’re such a mix of majesty and sass and it’s such a bewildering and fun combination. I could hang out with dragons all day.

#9. What’s your favorite food?

Cheesecake. Definitely cheesecake.

#10. What’s the biggest life lesson you’ve learned

Big question. Um… Probably to never take anything for granted, in couple of ways. In one sense, everything is important and the moments we take for granted can be some of the most important moments in our lives. In the other sense, anything can change in an instant and you can’t just wait around to do what’s important or take your blessings and relationships for granted because they might not be around forever.

Aaah wasn’t Ryuu’s answers amazing!!!!! Okay, well, if you’re convinced now to check out this book, then you can preorder your print copy or e-copy, add it to your GoodReads shelf, OR access the first chapter by clicking this link here!

R.M. Archer has been an avid reader since the time she could first make out words, and has always been a lover of story. That interest developed into a love of writing when she was seven (though those first attempts have long-since been incinerated), and she’s been pursuing a career as an author ever since. Archer believes that art can change the culture and aims to write YA speculative fiction that thoughtfully explores a variety of worldviews through the lens of her own Christian perspective.

In addition to writing fiction, Archer keeps up a non-fiction blog of writing tips and book reviews, and worldbuilding is her favorite topic to blog about.

Issabelle Perry is a proud Jesus follower, an extroverted writer, and a homeschool graduate. When she's not writing, you can find her reading, jamming to Skillet, studying history, hunting for Narnia in wardrobes, or envisioning herself wielding a magnificent sword (but due to her clumsiness, let’s hope that never happens). This self-proclaimed exclamation mark enthusiast can be found hanging out at Teen Writers’ Nook, a community of teen authors Issabelle co-founded in 2020. She is the author of Don't Let Me Go (Sky's the Limit Press 2024), May We Make Them Proud (2023), and a co-editor for two anthologies. What she’s probably doing right now is fangirling about her favorite books to random people or scanning the pantries for chocolate.
