How to Make Memorable Characters Part Five: My Attempt at Character Profiles (With FREE Resource!)

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve been in this series. I think my last character development post was in November, so for all of our *many* new followers, just a brief note what in the world this is all about.

Sooooo I started this series back in September to focus on developing awesome characters that shine through the pages, since characters are just SOOO important to a novel’s greatness!!! Anyway, my previous posts were about how much you should describe your main character, the importance of giving your characters quirks, and more! So today’s as you can see is about my attempt at character profiles.

A li’l bit of backstory: So I’m not really someone who does character profiles but after Heir to His Crown (more on that novel at the end of the post) when I had gotten so lost soo many times on my characters, I realized it was time to finally start doing them!!!! YAAAY!!!!!!

*dances and realizes I’m the only one celebrating* *quickly stuffs the disco ball and bowls of snacks and chocolate away* *composes self*

So what are character profiles? Character profiles are basically your organization of information about your character. You can lay out the profile in many different ways, all that matters is that it’s clear to you how it’s laid out and helps you keep straight all that important info about your MCs. How they look, how they act, their hopes, dreams, wishes, etc. The one I’m going to share with you today I began using the template Reedsy offers, but kinda branched out into my own thing. But y’all can definitely go check Reedsy’s out and see what they’ve got going on!!! Anyway, what I’m going to be sharing with all of you guys today is the character profiles I created, and if you’d like to use my template, you can grab that right here!!!!!!

The profiles are for the main characters of my newest novel, In Pursuit of Hope. This story is a YA contemporary retelling of Cinderella, minus the magic. Yes, I know. We don’t really need anymore retellings of Cinderella, but y’all, I’ve just been soooo into the whole storyline lately! I mean, how could you not be???!!! Look at this:

IT’S BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! Aaaaannnd the contemporary ones are sooooo awesome, too.

So, yeah, I JUST HAD TO WRITE MY OWN CINDERELLA RETELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The story alternates POVs between “Cinderella” (Ashlee Cinders) and “Prince Charming” (Prince Ruslan), so I’ve been working on making sure they both have a unique character voice. The story also, isn’t fantasy, but more of a suspense/action-adventure novel. Basically, I’m trying a lot of new things out so it’s not really gonna be exactly like other things I’ve written. The tagline is: When midnight strikes, nothing stays the same. I’ve just been soooo excited to write this and eeekk, can’t wait to share more with all of y’all!!! And now the cover!!!!!!

So are we ready to get into the profiles?

QUOTE FROM THE BOOK:

Sometimes it was hard to have a conversation with one who was born to pretend to be someone else when the audience watched. Because when one got good at it, most of the time that meant she never stopped. She would create another life, another role. And play it perfectly. Then the lines between reality and what was fake blurred and she had to balance that tightrope for the rest of her life.

I should know because I was exactly that person.

                                                                ~Ashlee Cinders

Name: Ashlee Willow Cinders.

Age: 16

Family relations: mother: Julia Cinders (deceased); father: Reuben Cinders; stepmother: Shona Cinders; brother: James Cinders; stepsisters: Makayla and Mackenzie Gallacher

Current Location: Hopulshire, Vallien

Nationality: Vallish

Education: currently a junior in high school

Desires: Ashlee wants to see the world and be free to be who she is. She wants hope of a better life.

What is stopping the character from getting what he/she wants: her stepmother, her fear

The Character’s Lie: there is no joy in the world and love is not real

Quirks: she always wears her hair in braids (bonus: she’ll often be subconsciously twirling the end of her braid whenever she’s nervous or anxious); she loves flip flops and stargazing

Flaw: will act rash and in haste whenever she is angry (which happens a bit too often)

Fears: thunderstorms

Talents/interests: she’s in the drama club at her school and enjoys acting

Hair color: auburn

Eye color: dark blue

Height: 5’2”

Posture: slouch

QUOTE FROM THE BOOK:

“His Highness wanted me to ask if you’d care to dance with him,” Lance said to the duke’s daughter, bowing his head. “You will have to excuse his shyness.”

Excuse me? And when did I ever have a shy side? Ugh, no doubt my mother really was holding Lance’s job over his head, that’s the only reason I could think of why he’d double cross me like this. Just goes to show you how few allies a prince really had when the opponent was his own parents.

                                                                   ~Prince Ruslan

Name: Prince Ruslan Lukas Callum Josiah Egon of Vallien

Age: 17

Family relations: mother: Queen Idonea Egon; father: King Josiah Egon; sister: Princess Audrey Egon

Current Location: Hopulshire, Vallien

Nationality: Vallish

Education: N/A

Desires: Though Ruslan wants to please his family and be a great king for Vallien, at the same time, he doesn’t want to live his whole life behind the walls of the palace. He wants to have a normal life and see the world.

What is stopping the character from getting what he/she wants: his duty as the future king of Vallien

The Character’s Lie: (Still trying to figure this one out)

Quirks: he’s made it his personal goal to always find something funny in every situation, not matter how terrible; (still working on the rest of this)

Flaw: oftentimes, he forgets to think about others, though not intentionally

Fears: dogs, yeah, it’s weird. *shrugs*

Talents/interests: though everyone claims its outdated, he’s enjoys swordplay, he’s also a huge reader

Hair color: dark brown

Eye color: light brown

Height: 5’8”

Posture: perfectly straight

Well, that’s a wrap for today!!!!!! And now the extra about Heir to His Crown I promised y’all! SOOO I FINISHED THE FIRST DRAFT OF HEIR TO HIS CROWN!!!!!!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!! I finished it at 87,309 words, which makes it officially the longest book I’ve ever written!!!!! EEEKK!!! And now for the closing snippet (this will probably be the last I share about HTHC for a while as I’ll be talking more about my latest novel):

Never in my life had I truly not wanted to be the prince of Cedulnia until that moment. The burden and responsibility I had to bear, the sacrifices I had to give, were too great. I had no say in any of it. All that was left for me was to keep pressing on.
Only because I was the Heir to his crown.

So lemme know in the comments: Do you use character profiles? What do you think of my new novel? Any suggestions on what my next post in this series should be on?

Well, I’ll see y’all in the next post. For now, as always, KEEP WRITING!!!!!!!

      Hey Issabelle!
I recently read this post, it was the first I had heard about character interviews!
I am on chapter three of my first draft of my first book.
(That is if you don’t count my earlier two that, Ummm…, didn’t work out.
Though I have found a way to salvage the latter😃)
Any way maybe I don’t, but I feel I already had my main characters pretty well planed out already. (- flaws, fears, & talents, which I am working on)
I was wondering if aside from those, you think I still need to make interviews for them.
And also do you make interviews for all your characters, or just your main characters?

      • Issabelle Perry

        Hello, Sariyah!!!
Oooo really? Well, that’s awesome!!!! I’m glad I was able to introduce you to something new then!!!!
Wow, WAY TO GO, girl!!!!!! That is SO AMAZING!!! WOOHOO!!! I wish you the best as you continue working on your book!!!!!!!
(Lol, I sooooo feel ya!!! But that’s really great that you can still salvage some of it!!! 😀)
Hmmm well, first every story and character is different, so when in doubt, do what’s best for your story!! Giving your character flaws, fears, and talents are really great starts to developing your character. Doing character interviews and such are very much optional things. Writers will do it to help understand a character better or get deeper sides of the character, but it’s never something you have to do. It’s more of an aid to help strengthen your character if the writer needs it. So, if you don’t think a character interview will help your story out, then I don’t think you need to do it if you don’t wanna.
I don’t usually do character interviews, but when I do, it’s normally only for my main characters.
THANK YOU SO SO SOOOOO MUCH for stopping by Teen Writers’ Nook!!!!!! *sends welcome chocoalate*

        • Sariyah

Thank you Issabelle for all the information!
Wow I didn’t expect a reply that quick!
I have two main characters, though another three that are
          Still largely important
They are the parents of one main character, and stepmother of the other.
(Stepmother being selfish and inconsiderate. Which makes it funny that I am commenting on THIS post 😂)
So I will just have to decide if I want to interview them too.
Thanks again for all the information 😊
Oh and I was wondering why you chose to exclude the magic?
Personally my family doesn’t watch or read etc, anything that contains magic.
          For religious reasons.
          *Accepts chocolate with pleasure!*
I am really enjoying TWN so far!

          • Issabelle Perry

            You’re SO welcome, Sariyah!!!!
Hahaha, well, I tend to try to reply as quickly as possible. Sometimes I get behind and they come late, though.
Yup, there you go. That sounds like a perfect plan!!!!! Your characters sound so interesting, too!! (Lol, that IS funny about the stepmother thing and commenting it on this post. 😂😂 I love it!! XD)
You’re SO welcome!!! Thank YOU for asking and all!!!!!!
Oh, I totally understand not watching or reading stuff with magic in it for religious reasons!!!!! For me, though, it was kinda because I write a lot of fantasy, and I was just bored with the genre and wanted to change things up a bit. So, yeah, I’m weird. *shrugs* XD
Awwww, I am SO THRILLED to hear that!!!!!! WOOHOOOO!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Well, then I hope to see you around more!!!

  • Joy Caroline

Yay, a new post from TWN! Just the other day I was thinking about how much I miss your posts, so I was actually being nostalgic and skimming the ones from way back when I first subscribed. I miss talking to you in general. And I really hope you’ll be sharing more about that Cinderella retelling!

Congratulations on completing the first draft of HTHC! Your word count is excellent. And that closing snippet is deep. You definitely need to keep the final sentence.

I am definitely going to use your character profile template to create some of my own! It’s just what I needed right now. Something extremely exciting happened to me in the writing department just this past Friday, so I’ve been in a fever since then, exulting and pondering and jumping off the walls. LOL. I shall remain mysterious about this unfortunately, but God willing, you’ll know about it before the summer is up.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this post and can’t wait to see what you cook up next writing-wise!

    • Issabelle

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!! D’awww, girl, you’re just the SWEETEST!!!! Yeah, I meant to post last week, but it’s been hard to get myself to actually write a post these days. *sigh* *gasp* Girl, that’s crazy, ’cause the other day I was just thinking about TWN’s old posts and my old comment/conversations with you!!! It’d be a lie to say I didn’t miss them. Girl, I don’t even know what to say, that’s so sweet of you. (*cough* can’t believe someone would actually miss talking to this wacky ole nut. 😜 R u feeling okay? XDDDD) I’ve missed talking to you, too!! Eeeekk, YAAY!!! THANK YOU!!!! I definitely plan on sharing more!!!

THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SOOOOOOO MUCH, JOY!!!!!!!!! D’aww, thank you!!! I was so happy that I, Issabelle Perry herself, WAS ACTUALLY ABLE TO WRITE A NOVEL PAST 80K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Serious accomplishment for me!! THANK YOUUUUU!!!!!! Oooh, I totally am planning on keeping it!!! Usually my closing line is the only thing I never change in my novels, no matter how many edits I go through. XD

YAAAY!!!!! I’m sooo happy to hear that!!!!! Hahahahaha, well, then I’m just gonna say I’m a mind-reader and totally knew that all along. XDDD (But, seriously, I love it when posts are so perfectly timed like that!) *gasp* GIRL HOW CAN YOU THINK ABOUT LEAVING ME HANGING LIKE THIS?????!!!!!!!! THE END OF SUMMER IS NOW NEVER GONNA GET HERE!!!!!!!!! Do I at least get a teensy, tiny hint? I feel like I deserve it. XDDDD (Also, it’s kind a funny coincidence, but something awesome just happened to me in the writing world on Monday!!!!!! Alas, I’ve gotta stay quiet about it in case things don’t work out like I want it to. But I’ll give you a hint: whatever you think it is, that’s probably not it. XD)

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!! I’m so glad!!!!! YESSSS!!!!! Oh, yeah, you better believe it’s good!!!!!! *pumps fist in the air * (and slightly crazy)

    • Issabelle

      THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! 🙂
Hehehehehe *whispers* don’t tell anyone but I am, too. *grins*
D’awww, THANK YOU SO SO SOOOOOOOOO MUCH, GIRL!!!!!!!!!! <333 Eeeekk, yes, I just cannot wait until you get to the ending. It was totally awesome (and maybe a teensy, weensy bit sad. 😉

  • Lily

Hi Issabelle! Congrats on finishing the first draft of Heir to His Crown!! That’s super exciting! *passes you cake and throws confetti*

Ooo, and a Cinderella tale with action and suspense? (I’ve been trying to get Hallmark to go in that direction with their royal comedy movies! XD) Now I’m intrigued!!

Hmm, I have character profiles on Scrivener; but I haven’t used them much. I’ve recently been trying to do character sketches. How are you liking character profiles so far? Have you found them extremely helpful in visualizing your characters?

    • Issabelle

Hey, Lily!! *high fives* Awww, THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO *infinite o* MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeekkk, ikr!!!! I always get so happy when I finish my first drafts!!!! *happily takes the cake and hopes its chocolate*

YESSS!!!!!! ‘Cause, hey, I need a li’l action happening in my stories. 😉 (Lol, like I AM THE SAME WAY!!!!!! I was watching a Hallmark movie once and was secretly hoping some action/suspense was gonna suddenly start happening, but sadly that didn’t happen. 😢 But, if you ever find one that does, you HAVE TO let me know!!!) Awwww, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!! That just means a LOT to li’l ole me!! 😊

Oooooh, that is sooo cool!!!! (And if you don’t mind me asking, I TOTALLY wanna know who Scrivener is!) Aaaahh, YES!!! I’ve done a few character sketches before but I am definitely not the drawer!!! XD Well, I’m honestly really liking it, I just never remember to actually go back and look at what I’ve already written. I’m already having to slightly alter Ashlee’s profile ’cause as I’m writing the first draft, she’s showing me a side of her I didn’t know about. (I guess I’ll always be a panster at heart. XD) Oooh, YES!!! They’ve been awesome to help me brainstorm some ideas for the character AND remember to include things like flaws, desires, internal conflict etc., things I sometimes forget. 😉

      • Lily

        *cake can totally be chocolate!*

You’re so welcome! I’m telling you, you, me, and my sister should write new plotlines for Hallmark! (Oo oo, do you have a favorite Hallmark movie? Mine are the ones with writers *so predictable lol* Or, their mystery movies!)

Ah, Scrivener is a Macbook writing app. Sadly, it’s not free (last I checked, the latest version is under $50). BUT it’s so cool because they have a bunch of different writing templates (i.e short story, novel, screen-writing, etc). The thing that set’s it apart from other writing apps is that it will compile your document for you (like, completely format it so you can set it up to be sent to publishers or just self-pub via Amazon, etc.)

There’s also a ‘Binder’ feature where you can organize different scenes, chapters, character notes/research, etc. And if your working on one scene and need to refer to another scene, Scrivener will let you work on both side by side! I’m still exploring it all, and have probably talked about it way to much *sheepish grin* But if you’re interested, it’s worth checking out! (I’ve also heard some people say it’s better to get it from the site; something about free updates that you won’t get if you get it at apple’s app store… yeah, I haven’t looked into that.) Okay, I’ll move on now 🙂

Cool, I’m glad the profiles are working out. Haha! Yeah, I scatter my notes all over my desk so I’ll try to ‘remember’ what I wrote down (and then I’ll lose one of my notes and have to go digging for it!). Ahh, just like a character to suddenly reveal something new about themselves! XD *goes to glaring at certain characters in current writing projects*

And yes, I’m sorry, I didn’t clarify. By ‘character sketches’ I meant writing ‘sketches’ of character’s description and action (basically throwing my character in a random scene and writing what happens). Yeah, I’ll spare you from having to see my actual drawings XD

        • Issabelle

          YESSSSS!!!!!!

*gasp* Like, girl, WE SHOULD!!!!! We’d totally rock it!!! (Aaaah, yes, those are AMAZING!!!! Mine would be a lot of the Christmas ones AND the ones with writers and royalty people in them. I never get tired of them!!!!! *contented sigh*)

Oooh, wow, that sounds just SOOO COOL!!!! I’ll definitely check into it. THANKS for telling me about it!!!!! (Although, now I feel like you’ve mentioned it before, so sorry for my poor memory. 😉 ) Whoa, that Binder feature sounds like THE COOLEST (and honestly so useful for someone like me. 😅) Nah, you’ve not talked about it too much, it was actually pretty interesting learning about it!!!! (Oooh, I’ll remember that, thxs!) 🙂

😀 Lol, I have like soooo many notes in soooo many places, its like every little nook and cranny in my room is stuffed with notebooks or important slips of paper. XD (Girl, I can 100% RELATE TO THIS!!!!) Aaaah, ikr! I loooove it when they do that, but sometimes it gets a li’l scary how much of a mind on their own they have. XD One day fictional characters will rule the world. 😂😜 *glares at my own certain characters–*cough* Keenum and Ruslan *cough–in current wips*

Ooops, that’s okay. It’s just like me to completely misunderstand someone. Oh, the stories I could tell all of you. 😂 That’s pretty awesome though. 🙂 Sounds like a lotta fun!!!! Hahahaha, sooo feel ya, sista. XD

          • Lily

Haha! I can totally relate to poor memory. I think I might have mentioned it on KP’s forum *shrugs* And there’s one time (or was it several…?) where I totally misunderstood what my sister said. *Sighs* We had a lot of laughs over it XD

OOoo yes! Definitely check it out! I could go on and on about it *no Lily, please not again!* But yeah, the Binder feature is AWESOME!!!

…wait, fictional characters will rule the world?!! *starts building shelter for the fictional character apocalypse!* *wonders if this will become a dystopian novel?!* *starts thinking that that’d be cool, so is now furiously scribbling notes and losing them in notebook* *realizes that she should stop talking now* XD *suddenly realizes that ficitional characters coming to life is actually premise of Inkheart?!* *heelp!*

            • Issabelle

Hahahah, I feel like we allllll can. XD Oooh, YESSS!!! I think that’s where I had heard it!!! Aaaahhh, girl, you wouldn’t BELIEVE the number of times I misunderstood what my fam said. XD Haha!!!!

YESSSS!!!!! I will!!!!!! Hahahaha, hey, that must mean it’s good then, right? 😉 It sounds soo awesome!!!!

YESS!!! THEY SHALL RULE THE WORLD!!!! Okay, I must admit, I laughed sooo hard over all of this, but it IS such a genius idea. Annnddd I am now going to go check out this Inkheart because it sounds like a book/movie/whatever it is/thing I need in my life. 😉 (But you should still write that book. Just saying. XD)

              • Lily

                I totally will write it!

(Oh, as a side note, I’ve only heard about Inkheart; never read it *shrugs*. But yeah, if you check it out, let me know what you think!) 🙂

  • Jane

*dances with you* *pulls back out disco ball and snacks and chocolate*
I LOVE the character boards!!!!!!! And I can’t wait to see where this next novel goes!!!!! It sounds sooooooooo neat!!!!!!!!!!! I also love the Cinderella movie, (both the animated one and the live action one) but I’ve never found a retelling that I like. But since I ALWAYS love your writing I’m guessing this one is going to be the best one out there!!!!!!!!!!! <3333
I’ve never done a character board, but they look really fun so that’s probably gonna change soon. 😉
Also, I’m so glad you brought back the series!!!!!!!!!! I was getting worried we were all gonna have to go on without memorable characters!!!! You could do the next one on what a MC character needs to have. Like motive, a want and need, something that’s stoping them, etc. (Did you already do that? I can’t remember. XD)

And I already said how excited I was for you finishing Heir To His Crown but…… IM SO EXOTED TO FINISHED HEIR TO HIS CROWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EEEEKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU AND I STILL CANT BELIEVE THAT YOU FINISHED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You totally rocked it girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!(People still say that right? XD)
I’m ssssuuuupppppeeeerrrrr proud of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
(Also, I didn’t go back through this comment and read it because it’s pretty long, so if there are any spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes I apologize. 😅)

    • Issabelle

*happily eats some of the snacks and chocolate while admiring the disco ball*
EEEK!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, JANE!!!!!! Aaaah, thanks, ikr!!!! I’m soooo excited to be working on this one. I’ve got some pretty good ideas in the works. 😉 D’awww, THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!!!! Oooh, me too!!!! (Ah, yes, same here, though I think I like the live action one more. 🙂 ) Oooh, well then I shall accept your challenge and write the best Cinderella retelling ever! *pumps fist in the air* (But, girl, seriously, I just get sooo excited when you tell me how much you love my writing! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!) Oooh, yes, they are soo much fun!! You should try it out!!!! 😉

Aww, well, of course, girl, I had to bring it back for you!!!!! Ain’t no one loved this series as much as you do!!!!!! Lol, hehehehehehe well that’d be terrible since memorable characters are AWESOME!!!!! I guess I can’t fail the writing world like that, can I? XDDD *gasp* GIRL THAT IS GENIUS!!!!!! And I seriously think that should be my next one!!!!!!! (nope, I haven’t done that one yet, but I soooo am going to have to!!!!!!!)

THANK YOU A HUNDRED MILLION TIMES OVER, JANEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Girl, I don’t even know what to say to all of this except THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!!!! Your excitement and enthusiasm means more than words can ever express!!!!! *hugs* D’awww, girl, I only rock ’cause you showed me how to do it!!!!!! *high fives* (Lol, well, I dunno but if they don’t, then we are sooo bringing it back!!!) THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SSOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
(ha, that’s fine. I NEVER go back through and reread my comments. Like never EVER!!! So it’s totally okay!!! XD)

  • Selah

This blog post was AWESOME!!! I recently got a pretty cool book idea and started writing parts of it, but I’ve been really struggling with my characters. This helps SOOO MUCH, and I’m totally going to make character profiles for my 2 MC. (And I need to go back and look at your other posts in this series!)
In Pursuit of Hope sounds SUPER COOL!!! I can’t wait to hear more about it!!!!!

    • Issabelle

Awwww, Selah, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!! I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear that!!!! 😊 *sends you your favorite cookies for being such an awesome reader* *gasp* Like, no way! THAT IS SOOO COOL!!!!!! Oooh, I’d love to hear more about your book (if you wanna share, that is). Aaaaah, I soooo feel ya. Characters can sometimes be the easiest AND hardest part all at the same time!!! Eeeeek, girl, I am just SO SO SOOOO HAPPY to hear that!!!!!! Girl, you should!! That is soo awesome!!!! (Well, bit of caution, I’ve totally gotten much better at my post writing, so they might be a bit cringey, but hopefully they’ll still have some awesome advice for you!! I highly recommend reading part two of the series, the one on giving characters quirks. It’s my fav.)

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH, SELAH!!!!!!!!!! That means so much that you think so!!!!! <3333 EEEEEKK, YAAY!!!! I can't wait to share more about it!

      • Selah

*wondering if you can work magic because I received some chocolate chip cookies yesterday XD*
Here’s a description of my book: ‘When the large neighboring country of Sloma invades the small country of Langledon, the civilians know there’s no hope that their army will succeed. So they form three large resistance groups to help fight the enemy. There’s the Feran, which focuses on creating and making weapons; the Arond, which spies on the enemy and tries to intercept messages; and the Osta which fights any Slomack soldier they meet. Fourteen year old Korlyn wants to fight, but she feels like she doesn’t fit into any of these groups. So, with the help of the runaway Prince Legend, Korlyn makes her own group, the Emersi. Their mission is to sneak into Sloma and assassinate the bloodthirsty King Viggo- who started the war- in hopes to bring peace to their country.’
I just wrote the description up, so it’s not great, and I’m sure it will change a million times as I continue writing more. Just last night I got the idea of changing Legend into a prince who ran away from the castle because he wants to help his country fight-or so he claims *jumps up and down and squeals because the plot twist is going to be amazing*!!!

        • Issabelle

*now wondering if I can also work magic* XD It must be the fantasy author in me. 😉
*gasp suuuuper loudly* Girl, I like, I don’t even know what to say. I don’t know what I was expecting, but THIS STORY IDEA IS PURE GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! EEeekkkkk, I hope one day I’ll be able to read it, ’cause I can already tell you, it’d sound like one of those books I’d have to read in one sitting. So much going one and just *squeals nonsensical stuff in my excitement* I. LOVE. THIS. STORY. IDEA!!!! *high fives*
Girl, it is INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Well, yeah, that’s probably right. I’ve written synopsis for my books a hundred million times before I’m ever satisfied. 😉 Whoa, well, personally, I LOVE IT that Legend is a prince who ran away from the castle. It just makes everything sooo much more intriguing!!! *jumps up and down and squeals because the plot twist just sounds sooo amazing* 🙂 THANKS for sharing!!!

          • Selah

Thank you!!! That means SOO MUCH!!! I’ve wanted to be an author forever, and this is the first time I’ve really started writing my ideas down. (You get that one book idea in your head, and it just won’t leave!)
I looove Legend as a prince, and I’m trying to figure out the perfect scene when Korlyn figures out he’s actually a prince!
Also I LOVE your book cover!!! What do you use to make it and where do you get your AWESOME photos?! (If you don’t mind my asking)

            • Issabelle

You’re welcome!!!! Aww, well, girl, I KNOW that you can TOTALLY DO THIS!!!!! WOOHOOOO!!!! And I’m cheering you on all the way!!! *waving pom poms* (Lol, I soooo get that!!! You just need that one book idea, after all!)
*gasp* Ooooooooo that sounds SO EXCITING!!!!!
D’awwww, Selah, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!! Well, I use a lot of different resources and platforms, but I recommend if you’re wanting to make one to check out Canva. It’s a really awesome place that’s sooo simple and easy to use. While there is a premium plan, I just stick with the free stuff. They also have photos on Canva to use and that’s where I get them. 🙂

  • Gemma

Issabelle!!!!!! You’re killing me!!!!!!!! *flops down dramatically on the floor, gets up and starts raving like a madman* I need to know more! I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to!!!!! It’s unfortunate that I understand the need and want to do this to people…. that doesn’t mean I will like it when it’s done to me nor will it stop me from doing it to others! *cough* anyways! It all sounds amazing as always and I’m dying till I can know more.

    • Issabelle

GEMMAAAAA!!!!! *cough* Well, that’s kinda my specialty here. XDD Eeeeekk, YESSSS!!!!! That’s really great ’cause I love talking about my books! So you’ll totally be hearing more!!! (Hopefully. • Ally M.J.

    HEEELLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *pant, pant* OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Greetings from my hole! I love love love the retelling of Cinderella you’re planning, and based on the profiles the Ashlee and prince will be awesome! I really like to make Character Bio Sheets, and I just started one for my newest main character, Siju! I might have to change her name because it’s so similar to the Korean word soju, which is a kind of alcohol.

    • Issabelle

HEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYY, long time not chat, amiright!
Hahahaha, right back at ya. 😄 Awww, THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH!!!!!!!! I can’t tell you how much that means to me!!!!! Eeeekkk, I hope you’re right!!!! (*whispers* don’t tell anyone this, but the prince is my favorite.) Oooh, that is SOO COOL!!!!! Character Bio Sheets are so fun!!!!! THAT. IS. SO. AWESOME!!!! How’s the bio sheet going? Oh 😳 well, I can honestly say I didn’t see that one coming. 😂 But, hey, as long as no Korean-speaking peeps read it, no one would ever know, right? XD

  • Mahitha

ISSABELLE!!!! I LOVED this post and learning about your characters! It was soo interesting! Can’t wait for more updates about your story! 😉

  • Kristianne

I LOVE this, Issabelle! You have so many great story ideas, and now I’m in love with this new one! XD Both Ashlee and Ruslan sound so interesting, and I love the idea of using a character profile to keep track of them. I’ll definitely be using your form for my characters!

    • Issabelle

D’awww, THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH, KRISTIANNE!!!!!!!!!!! Oooh, girl, I am sooo happy to hear you think that!!!!! 🙂 Whoa, I must be really good if you’re in love with it already!! OH YEA!!! 😄 YESSS!!!!!! I LOOOVE Ashlee and Ruslan and am sooooo thrilled that you think they sound interesting!!!! THANK YOUUUU!!!!!! Eeeek, girl, you totally should!!!!! <333 THANK YOU SO MUCH for stopping by!!!!!!

  • Victoria

Ooooh, this is so cool, Issabelle!!!! I kinda have character profiles for my characters (even though I didn’t know that’s what they were called) XD but I went to Reedsy and downloaded theirs ’cause it seemed so helpful! Thanks for sharing that resource!!

Also, GIRL. Your new novel sounds SOOOO AWESOME!!!! I love how it’s an action novel rather than a Fantasy one with magic! I can’t wait to learn more about it!!! (Oh, and the cover for it is AMAZING!!! It’s probably one of the coolest book covers I’ve ever seen!) 😀 I don’t really have any ideas for the next part of this series right now, but I’ll totally let ya know if I come up with one! 😉

    • Issabelle

Aww, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, V!!!!!! (yeah, I need to get a nickname for you!) Aaaah, AWESOME!!!! Character profiles are so fun!! (hahaha, I didn’t know that’s what they were called either until a month or two ago. XD) YAAAY!!!! That’s so cool!!!! (*cough* but that goes to show you why I should not skim posts like that ’cause I didn’t even know you could download theres. XD 😅) You’re SO welcome!!! <3333

GIRL, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH A HUNDRED TIMES OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeekkk, like I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear that!!! I was a bit worried y'all wouldn't like it as much since I was stepping out of my usual writing genre, but I'm just soooo happy you love it!!!!! I was wanting something fresh and new!!!!! YESSSS!!! More's coming!!!! (D'awww, THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!! Aaaaaahhh, it's definitely one of my favorites that I've done. Well, er, outside of yours. THAT one was my favorite. Oh, but don't let me forget to send the fixed one. 'Cause I forget a lotta things. *sighs*) AWESOME, sounds perfect!!!!! 🙂

      • Victoria

You’re more than welcome, girl!!! (Hehehehe, yeah, Victoria can be a mouthful sometimes! XD A few people call me ‘V’ so I’m used to it! ;P (But feel free to call me whatever else ya want–as long it’s not Vicki *shudders* I love the name on other people, but just not me…XD)). Lololol, weeell it was actually a bit of a process (I had to sign up to their newsletter or something) BUT I did find out that they do these cool weekly writing contests (which you probably already know about) 😉 so I made an account in case I wanted to do one of those over the summer! 😀

YOU’RE SO WELCOME!!!!! WHAAAT!?! Girl, I love EVERYTHING you write!!!!! There’s NEVER going to be a single moment where I think one of your WIPs is not as cool!!! I’ve actually never written in that genre so you’ll have to let us know how it goes and maybe *cough* even give a few tips *cough*. 😉 Awwww, REALLY!?!?! That’s awesome!!! The one you made for me is DEFINITELY one of my favorites too (’cause picking just one is literally impossible for me.) XD Hehehe, okey-dokey! (You may or may not regret telling me to do that…*mischievous grin*) But I SO feel you. My brain forgets a lotta things too. *double sigh*

        • Issabelle

(Aaaah, not as much of a mouthful as Issabelle, though. XD Lol, well, that’s really good to know, ’cause I almost called you Vicky once, sooooo. I’ll remember not to do that. XD) Aaaah, yeah, I see. Oooh, yes, I did know about that. I have a friend who does them sometimes. Oooh, cool!!!!!! 🙂 Good luck!!!!

D’awwww, THANK YOU SOO MUCH, girl!!!!!!! Aww, well, I hope not. Though, I feel like the one I’m working on isn’t as cool as I had wanted, but oh, well. *shrugs* *gasp* Oooooh, girl, that is SUCH A GENIUS IDEA!!!!!!! So, fun fact, I actually used to write YA suspense before switching of YA fantasy, so I have a few good tips and tricks for the genre. 😉 I’ll totally have to do a post on that sometime. Maybe if/when I finish the novel, that could be a cool post to celebrate on. Like, what I learned about writing YA suspense/action-adventure. Eeeekk, girl, I’m soooo glad!!!! (Lol, I sooo feel ya!!!!) (Lol, don’t worry, I didn’t regret it. 😉 ) Aaahh, ikr!!!! I guess I have too much going on up ‘ere. 😉

  • 🌺Chloe🌺

I loved this post! Your Cinderella remake sounds super awesome! Me and my sisters have watched all of the remake movies together to be silly, and I loved it!
YOU FINISHED YOUR FIRST DRAFT TO HTHC??!!?!!?! That’s so cool!!!!! I only started getting into writing last October, so I have not completed any drafts yet unfortunately. ☹️ But I did get about 50% of the way done with one that I’m doing with my friend! We have to redo the beginning though, so that’s a major setback. Anyways, thanks for the post! I really loved hearing about your books!!!

      • Issabelle

Girl, that is SUCH a genius idea!!!!! I LOOOVE IT!!!!! I will definitely plan on doing that, since book titles are always sooooo hard! THANK YOU SO MUCH for the suggestion!!!!!!!!!!!!! *high fives*

    • Issabelle

D’aww, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH, CHLOEEE!!!!!!! Eeeek, I am just beyond happy that you think so!!! 🙂 Ooooh, I have seen sooo many Cinderella retellings, I don’t think I could even count them all. Do you have any favorites?
Eeeek, yesssss, I did!!!!!! And I am sooo thrilled about that!!!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!! Ooooh, wow, that is SO cool!!!!!! Hey, that’s okay, every little bit counts. Plus, finishing your first novel is always THE hardest step for most writers. It gets easier the more you write. I speak from experience, BUT 50% is SUCH an accomplishment!!!! WOOHOOOO!!!! It won’t be long before you finish it!!!!!! *jumps up and down* Like, girl, I soooo feel ya there!!! I’m already planning on reworking the opening of my Cinderella retelling, but that’s what second drafts are for!!! 🙂 You’re so welcome, thank YOU for reading and commenting!!!!!!!!! Eeeekk, girl, I can’t say how much that means to me! THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!! <333

  • Sophia

  • Alexa

When I saw this post pop up in my email, I started dancing in my seat because I was so happy! I had so much fun reading through this and getting to know your characters better! (They seem like very awesome characters!) I can not wait to hear from Ashlee and Prince Ruslan more!!!
Ahhh! A FREEBIE? *Celebrates* I am going to use it for my MC right now! *squeals happily*
And you finished Heir to his Crown!!!!!! *showers you with chocolate* I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU! I’ve loved beta reading it every second!
    Awesome post ISSABELLE!!!!!

    • Issabelle

Eeeekkk, really? Girl, that just MEANS SO MUCH!!!!!!! Awww, THANK YOU SO SO SO SOOOOO MUCH, Alexa!!!!!!!!!! I am beyond happy to hear that!! 😊 (Aaah, yes, I think they’re pretty awesome charries. 😉 ) EEEKKKKK, YAAAAY!!!!! I can’t wait to share more. Writing this story has just been soo much fun and honestly a whole lot easier than writing Heir to His Crown was. That story just about did me in. 😉

YESS!!! I love freebies, even if its something ridiculous or I’m never gonna use. There’s just something about free stuff. XD Girl, I cannot tell you how excited I am that the freebie is actually gonna be helpful to you!!!!!!! EEEKKKK!!! *also squeals happily* Aaaah, YESSS I DID!!!!! *happily accepts dee chocolate* D’awww, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH, ALEXA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Girl… I just.. that just MEANS SO MUCH TO ME!!! I can’t tell you how happy this whole comment has just made me!!!!! *hugs* I am sooo thrilled your reading Heir to His Crown!!!!!!

THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!! Thank you for reading and commenting!!!! 🙂

      • Alexa

I know right?? Free stuff is awesome! 😉 Of course, it will be helpful to me! I’ve been on the lookout for a character profile that’s simple and not a gazillion pages XD. You bet!! Aww, that makes me happy that this comment made your day! <33

        • Issabelle

YESSS!!!!! Free stuff is da best!! 😉 Awww, that’s AWESOME!!!!! Lol, I feel ya, girl!!! When I went looking for character profiles, I was really shocked at how crazy long they were. Especially since a lot of the information didn’t apply to my characters, like how much money they made a year and stuff. So I did my own. ❤️❤️❤️

  • Keturah Lamb

I sometimes do character profiles, but not super neat about it ;D What stood out to me as particularly interesting in yours was that Cinderella has a brother!

    thesocialporcupine.com
    thegirlwhodoesntexist.com

    • Issabelle

Ooooh, that’s soo cool!!!! *high fives* Hehehehehehee… yeah, I sooo feel ya there, Keturah!!!!!! Oooooh, I’m sooo happy to hear that!!!! Yes, I loooooved giving my “Cinderella” character a brother, ’cause I always like giving my characters siblings and some family (even if they have a terrible stepmom and sisters. 😉 ) THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH for reading and commenting!!!!!! *sends welcome chocolate*

  • Diamond

Awesome! I’ve been looking for some character profiles for a blog project…hehe
Also, huge congrats on finishing Heir to His Crown! That’s a huge accomplishment. I have never completed a first draft, so…
I’m very excited for your Cinderella story! It sounds incredible!

    • Issabelle

YESSS!!!! Oooooh, well, then hopefully this post might’ve been semi-helpful. 🙂
D’awww, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, DIAMOND!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, finishing first drafts is HARD. Aww, well, I SO KNOW you can do it!!!! I’m cheering you on all da way!!!!!
Eeeeekk, YAAAY!!!! I’m sooo happy to hear that!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! <3333

  • Sisters Three

Never done character profiles, at least not on paper….we usually keep it all in our heads, which might be becoming a little crowded with all the book ideas whirling around…lol…we might need to try this sometime. Looks fun!

    • Issabelle Perry

Hahaha, girls, I am the SAME way!!!!! This was the only time I’ve ever tried out character profiles and I honestly don’t know if I’ll ever do it again. XD I literally never write anything down… and while I’m trying to balance between about five different novels (and a couple novellas) I can testify to the crowdedness. XD *high five* Ooooo, awesome!!!! I’d love to hear what y’all think if you do!!!!! YESSS!!!!! <3333 🙂 (THANK YOU SOOO MUCH for reading and commenting!!!! *gives y'all chocolate*)

      • Sisters Three

Good to know we’re not the only ones…hahaha. Yeah, we tried it out this morning, but it was just transferring info from our heads to paper, doesn’t feel like it made any room up there…lol…Plus, we’ll probably forget to look at it…hahaha…(Totally! *Yay!..lol…*)

        • Issabelle Perry

Lol, same here!!! Girls, I JUST FEEL Y’ALL SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!! (It seems we can never clear up space in our cluttered thoughts, now can we? XD) But seriously, I think I’ve only looked at my character profile once but that was just so I could write this post. Other than that, I keep forgetting to look at it, lol. So it didn’t do me much good.

          • Sisters Three

Hey, sorry to bother you with a question…but we were thinking of moving our blog to WordPress…what’s your advice on that? We see that’s what you guys did, and quite frankly having looked at prices, we could actually afford a domain name on WordPress while on Wix we’re just using the free, stuff. So, from your experience would it be a good idea to switch?
We’re feeling like it would be…just not sure…
            Thanks so much, Issabelle!

            • Issabelle Perry

Girls, it’s not a bother at all!!! I’m actually so glad I can help y’all out!!!!!!!! Anyway, Teen Writers’ Nook actually originally started out as a wixsite, but we ended up deciding that wix just wasn’t giving us what we wanted/needed for our blog, so then we made the switch to WordPress. I’m actually SO happy we swapped, so from experience, I think if switching is something y’all wanna do, it’s a really good idea!!!!! Cuz WordPress was made more for blogs while Wix seems like it was made more for businesses and stuff because what it offers for blogs isn’t as much as WordPress gives you. So I hope that helped and all!!!
Y’all are SO very welcome!!!! Anytime and I’m soooo happy I could help some!!!! 🙂

              • Sisters Three

Thank You so much! We talked it over with our mom and she agreed that switching sounded like a good idea for our blog…so we guess we’ll start trying to get everything switched over…thank you so much!!!!
Also, thanks for subscribing to our blog!!! 😉 😉 😉

                • Issabelle Perry

You’re SO welcome!!!!!! Eeeeee that is SO EXCITING!!!!! If you need any help with anything don’t hesitate to ask!!!! 🙂 You’re very welcome!! I can’t wait to see what the new site looks like!!!!!
Aww y’all are so welcome!!!! I shoulda done it before now, but I can never seem to remember anything. XD

                  • Sisters Three

Hey, so sorry for not getting back sooner! We kept forgetting….thank you so much!!! Aww, too sweet! We started working on setting it up….man, WordPress editor is harder to manage than Wix, but we’re getting the hang of it…Thank you so much!
Aww, we get that! We forget things a lot…hahaha….it just means a lot that you did it!

                    • Issabelle Perry

That’s TOTALLY okay, girls!!!!! I get behind on replies all the time. Y’all are SO welcome!!!!! Ooof I feel ya. When TWN swapped to wp, I pretty much had to relearn website skills. But if you have any questions, I’d try my best to answer them!!!! <333 That's AWESOME!!!! You're welcome!!!
Hahaha, yeeeeaaahh I feel ya. Awww of course!!!!!! Your site looks so awesome and I love how much we have in common!!!!! <333

                  • Sisters Three

Yeah, we are definitely going through a learning curve…but we got it looking at least decent yesterday….lol…Aww, thanks! We’ll let you know if there is anything we can’t figure out….handy thing is WP has an undo button, Wix did not have that…so we’re not too afraid to push buttons cause we can just hit undo if we mess it up…lol…
Thanks! Us too! It’s been awesome talking to you!!! Your comment always seem so fun and upbeat! We love it!!!

                    • Issabelle Perry

Aaah, yes, I feel y’all!!!! Oooo THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!! I am SO excited for it!!!! You’re welcome!!! Awesome!! Hahaha, I know right! Girls I was the SAME WAY when I switched over!!!! That undo button is really useful. XD
You’re very welcome!!!! EEE AWESOME!!!! Awww, girls, it’s been awesome talking to y’all!!!!!!! D’awww, y’all are just TOO SWEET!!!!! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!!!! That just means a TON to li’l ole me!!! (Also, I’m SO sorry for my delayed response. I had been out of town last week and have been catching up on all the things I was behind on! 🙂 )

                  • Sisters Three
