My Attempt at Faux Stained Glass

Hi, everyone!!! Before I get in to today’s post, I want to thank everyone who participated in Escaping the Blogosphere!!! Me and my team at TWN ABSOLUTELY LOVED reading everyone’s post, searching for the clues, and reading everyone’s excitement in the comments!!!!!!!!!! You all made it SO MUCH FUN!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so, today I am sharing with you something I made back in December. Well, you probably already figured out what it is because of the title.πŸ˜‰ I made them as Christmas gifts for Issabelle and Alana. The pictures don’t look the best. I’m still working on my photography skills. But I hope you enjoy them anyway.

This is probably my first time using these dashes in a blog post. πŸ˜‰

I just figured I would try it out.

It really is a lot of fun!!!

Alright, here is the first picture:

Created by Katherine @ Teen Writers’ Nook

You can probably guess which one I made for Issabelle and which one I made for Alana. For those of you who might not know, the one that says “Into the Lamp” is inspired by Issabelle’s WIP, which is titled the same thing.

Annnndddd here’s another picture . . .

Faux stained glass created by Katherine @ Teen Writers’ Nook

For my faux stained glass, I used 4 x 6 glass (obviously it’s glassπŸ˜‰) picture frame replacements. I drew out my design, but you can use a printable design if you want. The paint was acrylic paint mixed with white school glue. When I finished, I sprayed the glass with an acrylic sealer spray. I learned how to do this from different sources with one of them being a Disney Descendant magazine. However, here is a link to some directions that I think might be kinda easy. If you are wanting to try this out and have any questions, feel free to ask me in the comments. This was my first time trying faux stained glass. It was a lot of fun so I will probably do it again sometime.

Onto the questions: Have you tried faux stained glass before? Is there any diy that you would like to see in a post? Is there a craft project that you challenge me to do? (I will most likely accept the challenge if there is.😁) Answer in the comments. I can’t wait to hear from you!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, wow! That’s so cool! You’re so great at it!

Now, I shall answer the questions~
I have never tried faux stained glass before, but I would like to try it! Sounds fun!

Hmmm… a DIY, huh? Maybe you could try homemade masks or homemade clothes. (I don’t know, I just find sewing fun…) Maybe in-season decorations?

A craft project challenge… Let’s see… Oh, you could try making a homemade (and decorated) notebook/journal for all of your writings. It’s not exactly much of a challenge, but I’m sure it’d be fun to do!!

    • Katherine

THANK YOU SO MUCH, GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so glad you like it!!!!!! Awwww!😊 THANK YOU!!!!!!! It was only my first try so I have a lot of improving to do. But thank you so much!!!!!! You’re so sweet!!!!!πŸ’—

Ooh, yes, it’s a lot of fun!!!!! And if you like painting, you’ll really like it!!!! πŸ™‚ When you do try it out, let me know how it goes. πŸ˜‰

Oooh, I LOVE those ideas!!!!!!! Sewing is so much fun!!!!!! I really love it!!! Homemade masks would be very useful. πŸ˜‰ How about some diy scrunchies too? I saw a pattern for them and it looked like fun! I LOVE in-season decorations!!!!!!

I LOVE THAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!! That is an EXCELLENT challenge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CHALLENGING ME!!!!!!!!!!πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ It sounds like SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!! Would you like a homemade scrapbook as well? I can try to do both.

Your creations look so beautiful! I love how you made one for Issa’s WIP.
I saw Allie suggested origami. I would totally love to see that. I have never tried it because I’m too scared of messing up, lol. But a tutorial on that would be really interesting! And I saw Mahitha was talking about homemade masks. My parents make those, although it’s more out of necessity than a hobby. (Surprisingly, my dad does most of the work. πŸ˜‚) Two of my cousins are wonderful seamstresses and used to make dresses for me and my dolls when I was little.
Also, do you know how to use watercolor paints? I have been learning to paint recently, which is new for me since I usually just do pencil sketching, but I love it. Unfortunately, my art teacher doesn’t have such a high opinion of my watercolor skills. πŸ˜‚ It will be a loooong time before I’m as skilled as she is.

    • Katherine

Awwww!😊 That is so sweet of you to say!!!!!!!!<3 Thank you so much, girl!!!!!!!! Me too!!!!!! I knew that I wanted to give her something that was inspired by her WIP and when I got an idea for faux stained glass I just knew that I had to put the lamp on there.
Awesome!!!!! Origami is really cool!!!!! Haha, I ALWAYS seem to mess up when I try origami but I just unfold the paper and keep retrying till I get it right (or close to rightπŸ˜‰). Is there a specific origami thing that you want to see (like a frog or something)?
Haha, yeah, my mom made us all a homemade mask but it would be cool if I tried to do one myself. Ooh, that's so cool that your cousins like to sew!!!!!!! The first thing I ever sewed was a doll dress and I did it by hand so it didn't turn out to well.πŸ˜‚
I've used watercolor quite a few times. I really like it. Though I don't know if I'm doing it right, lol. Mostly, when it comes to crafting I'm self-taught.πŸ˜‚ That is so cool that you're learning to paint!!!!!!!!! If you have any tips that you've learned I'd LOVE to hear them!!! I'm sure you are doing fantastic with your watercolor painting!!!!!!

      • Joy Caroline

The Into the Lamp theme for the faux stained glass is literally so cute!
Ooh, you’re brave for actually TRYING to do origami. I’ve always wanted to but don’t have the courage. Hmmm, I hadn’t thought about anything specific but a frog sounds cool. I’ve also seen people make birds. I know this may be a crazy suggestion, but Issa might like it. How about a genie lamp? XD
I have never tried to sew anything, although when I was about eight years old I asked for a sewing kit for my birthday and it’s lain untouched ever since. (Hehe… I have NO idea why I asked for something I was never gonna use.) But my cousins are SO talented at it!
My art teacher has been trying to teach me watercolor, but so far she’s a bit disappointed with my progress, lol. The only thing I’ve really learned to do right is get different values of each color, although I’m still struggling with gradients.

        • Katherine

Ahhh, thank you so much, girl!!!!!!!!<3<3<3 I'm so glad you think so!!!!!
Haha, THANK YOU! Don't be afraid to try new things. I know you can do it!!!!! *gives you extra courage and motivational chocolate* Yes, the frog is one of my favorites to make. Oooh, cool suggestions!!!!! The bird is an easy one! πŸ˜‰ And I am so excited to try out that genie lamp!!!!!!!! I searched it and there really is a pattern for it. It looks like it will be soooo much fun!!!!! I am so glad you thought of it!!!πŸ˜€
Oh, wow. XD I feel bad for you sewing kit. XD (Lol, maybe you should try sewing. You might like it.) And if your cousins are talented, you might be as well. πŸ™‚
Aw, I'm so sorry she's disappointed with your progress. Don't give up though. Keep trying!! I don't worry to much if the things I make are terrible. I just really enjoy the process of making it! And I know that nothing I make will ever be perfect I just love trying it out and doing my best anyway. πŸ™‚ Cool!!! Thank you so much for the tip!!!!!! I didn't think about different values of color before. I will remember that next time I paint with watercolor.

          • Joy Caroline

            Totally, haha!
Thanks for the chocolate. And wow, there actually is a genie lamp pattern? You totally gotta make it!
True. I should ask my mom to teach me to sew one of these days.
LOL yes, I will keep trying. Sketching is more my thing, though. Today I drew a realistic eye and am so happy with how that turned out!
I’m glad you could use the tip! GREAT POST, girl!!!

            • Katherine

              Thank you!!!πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„
No problem.πŸ‘ *sending you more chocolate* Yes, there really is a genie lamp pattern!!! I couldn’t believe it either. XD I guess there’s a pattern for everything. And there is one for a genie lamp with a genie coming out! (Whoever creates these patterns are geniuses!) I know, I totally got to make one now!!!
Yes, you should ask your mom to teach you to sew. It can be very useful. πŸ˜‰
πŸ˜€ Yay, I will cheer you on as you keep trying!!!!!! *waves pom poms* That is really cool that you like to sketch!!!!! I don’t know why I didn’t think to ask this before, but what kinds of things do you really like to sketch? That is AMAZING!!!!!!
Yes, it was very helpful – thank you!!! Awww, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!πŸ’—πŸ’— I am so happy that you loved it!!!!!!!<3

              • Joy Caroline

I love to sketch animals, but I also enjoy doing people. I’m not very good at that yet. Right now it’s mostly realistic faces/features that I’ve been practicing. I’m in no way an expert but they do say every expert was once a beginner, right? πŸ˜‚ I might share a few of my sketches on my blog this week, because I don’t talk about sketching much so probably not a lot of people know it’s one of my hobbies.

                • Katherine

Ooooh, awesome!!!!!!!!! I like to draw people too. But most of the time I draw fairies and mermaids. I’m sure you are FANTABULOUS at drawing!!!!! Right, we all start somewhere.πŸ˜‚ Oooh, that would be so AMAZING if you shared some of your sketches on your blog!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to see them!!!!!!!!πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ I bet they are INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!<3

  • Lily

Hi Katherine! We met on Kingdom Pen. Those pictures are really cool! I’ve never worked with glass before. Is it hard? What does the ‘faux’ part of the name mean?

    • Katherine

Hi, Lily!!!! Oh, yes, I remember. Thank you for commenting on my post!!!!!!<3 Aw, thank you so much!!!!!!!πŸ™‚ You should try it out sometime. It's really fun and what I did wasn't hard at all. It's really easy! The 'faux' part means that the glass wasn't really stained but made to look like it. I actually don't know how real stained glass is made, but the colored part in these was made with a paint/school glue mixture. The black outline is also a mixture of paint and glue, and then I filled the rest in with the colored paint. Kind of like if you were coloring a picture where you color inside the lines.

      • Lily

You’re welcome! Thanks for explaining the ‘faux’ part; that makes more sense. I have sister who loves to paint, so maybe when we’re finished up with school, it’d be a fun summer project to try.

        πŸ™‚

        • Katherine

πŸ™‚β€οΈ No problem.πŸ‘ I’m glad I explained it well.😁 Oooh, that is so cool that your sister loves to paint!!!!!!! Yes, you and your sister should totally do it!!! You will love it!!! It was so much fun!!!!!!

          πŸ™‚β€οΈβ€οΈ
