Girl Name Ideas for Writers

Hello, TWNers!! I’m here today with the next post in my Name Ideas series. This time, it’s name ideas for girl characters! I’ve been collecting girl names since I was elementary-aged, so this list might be longer than the last one, and I don’t know if it has as many “unique” names as the boy’s list, but you might find at least one. Also, you might notice that I have the tendency to save similar but variant versions of a name. XD (For example, a lot of these names end with “lyn/line,” “ena,” or “ana.”) But I guess if you didn’t like one version, you might like the other. XD

Anyway, I present to you my list ofΒ girl name ideas!

Hi, Alannah! Wow, cool! It’s a very pretty name, I must say!πŸ˜‰

Ah, “K” names are the best!! (Of course, I might be saying that since my own name starts with a “K.” XD) Oooh, those are such pretty names!!! I’ll have to add them to the list! Thank you so much for commenting!

Lexa… I have a similar name. In my WIP, one of the assassins my main character befriends is named Kiralex. I got that name from a keyboard smash 233333.

    • Katherine

Ah, that’s awesome!! Ooh, wow, Kiralex sounds like a super cool name!! I love it!! Ah, keyboard smashed names are the best!!😜 Thanks for stopping by!!

Great list!! I love finding unique names. Was excited to see my name on there πŸ™‚ So…my middle name is Elizabeth and mom wanted to name me Jennifer and call me Jenny Beth. Isn’t that adorable? If I ever use a pen name, it would totally be Jenny Beth.

    • Katherine

Hi, Virginia! Thank you!! Ah, me too!! πŸ˜€ Unique names are so much fun! Hehe, I’m glad I had your name on there then!πŸ˜‰ Aw, Elizabeth and Jennifer are pretty names!! And I love Jenny Beth!! That is definitely adorable! Ooh, yes, that would be a lovely pen name!! Thank you for stopping by the Nook!!

  • Diamond

That’s a great list of names! I usually go to babynamesdirect.com to find names because I can find names based on countries and meanings. For realistic fiction, I look at names that were popular around the time my characters were born.
I spotted two of my MC’s names on here! (Amber and Jade)
Hmm, I feel like Lacey was one of your characters in a story, but I don’t remember the details. Feel free to enlighten me if I”m wrong. (unless you used Lacey as a pen name? I know Alannah was a pen name for Madeline)

    • Katherine

Hi, Diamond! Thank you!! Wow, cool! I’ve never been to that website before, but it looks like a great place for name ideas! (And I love that it has the countries and meanings for each name!) I’ll have to use it next time I’m needing a name! πŸ˜‰ Whoa, that is a fantastic idea to find popular names during the character’s time of birth!!! I’ve never thought of that before, but I’m definitely gonna have to do it now!
Yay, cool!! (Hehe, I thought of your character, Jade, when I was writing this list up.πŸ˜‰)
Great guess!! Lacey was my pen name when I first entered the Blogosphere. But it only lasted for about four months, lol, before I switched to my real name.

  • Kayti

Oh! Such a fun list! I get my names all over the place but most of them come from road signs and gravestones *fp* I know, I know…but I enjoy walking around old graveyards and reading the headstones…you call me morbid if you like…

Some of my favorite names are pretty simple like Skye, Noami, Adara, or I really love southern double names like Ava Mae, Abbi Leen etc…

    • Katherine

Thank you, Kayti!! Ooh, great idea!! I bet road signs and gravestones have cool and intriguing name ideas!πŸ˜‰ Nooo, you’re not morbid! I actually thought that reading the headstones was a great idea and want to try it out the next time I go to a cemetery!!

Ooh, those are beautiful names!! I especially love Adara! And those double southern names sound great together!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Now I have new names for my list!😁

  • Lorelei Angelino

EEEEP such good names on here!!! I absolutely love the name Londyn! 😍 *bookmarks page*

At first I thought Lacey was a character’s name that you used before in some story or post before I found TWN, but looking at the comments I think I can guess that that was your pen name for a bit (or at least before I knew you!). Although, I will say that Lacey is a pretty pen name!

    • Katherine

Aw, thank you so much, Lore!!! Ah, it is a pretty name, isn’t it?!πŸ˜‰

Yep, you’re right! It was my pen name.πŸ˜‰ When I first started blogging, I was afraid to use my real name. So I went through my list of girl names till I found one I liked. But after being “Lacey” for a short bit (and it was VERY short in comparison to how long I’ve been blogging, LOL), I decided I wanted to be called by my real name (plus, I wanted my real name to be my author name). And that’s when I made the switch. XDD Aww, thank you!! That’s sweet that you thought it was a pretty pen name!😊 I admit, it was a fun name to be called by while it lasted, hehe. XD

  • RangerHalt2

I’ve commented before…fun post! I can’t say any of the names stood out to me, although I must confess I skimmed through them. I have used some of my favorite names in WIPs–Phaedra, for instance. Laurelin is another. I like the name Cassandra and Zelda as well. Just a few for you.

    • Katherine

Hi!! Thanks for commenting again! Thank you! Haha, that’s okay. It was meant for skimming. πŸ˜‰ Ooh, those are beautiful names!!! I love how unique they are!!! Thank you so much for sharing your favorite names!! I love adding new names to my list! πŸ˜€

    • Katherine

Thank you so much, Journey!! Aah, I know, right?!! I love coming up with names! Recently, I spent like two hours just making a list of names that would be common in my new fantasy world. XD
