Boy Name Ideas for Writers

Are you struggling to find a name for your male character? Well, look no further because I’ve created a list of ideas right here! All you have to do is to scroll through!πŸ˜‰ I don’t know about you, but I love collecting names! I’ve been keeping a little notebook of any name I hear that I like for a while now. It’s really handy since it takes me forever to name something and all I have to do is go through my personal list of names I already know that I like until I find one that fits the character I’m trying to name. (Which means, as you’re scrolling through the list, you’ll probably find names that my own characters have [for example, Greyson from β€œHe Wanted My Heart” got his name from this list].) Of course, there are many that I haven’t used yet. And a name on this list may even give you an idea for a similar but different name to use instead. Whatever you want to do! I’m just here to help with ideas.πŸ˜‰

About two years ago, I had the idea to share this list with you, but I never followed through until now. So I give you my list of boy name ideasΒ where there is guaranteed to be at least one unique name somewhere! (What can I say? I love unique names! So there are likely to be several of them on this list. XD)

What are some of your favorite boy names? What is your favorite one from this list?Β What do you think if my name had been Devereaux? To be honest, I can’t picture myself with any name other than Katherine, LOL. Also, I’m conducting a poll right now on Goodreads about whether science fiction fantasy is a real genre. I’m doing some “research” for a project that TWN is working on. So, if you haven’t already and would like to vote on the poll, you can do so here. If you don’t have Goodreads but would still like to say your vote, you can do so in the comments below! I can’t wait to hear all your thoughts!

OOOH I LOVE the names Forest and Oakley and Slayd! And Reed! *bookmarks this page for later* Great ideas, Kat! Thanks for sharing! One of my favorite boy names is Justice. (AND TWN IS WORKING ON A PROJECT??!)

    • Katherine

AHH, YAY!!!! Those are some of my favorites too!πŸ˜‰ I’m glad you found some names you like! Aww, thank you!!! You’re so welcome!! Oooh, Justice sounds like a GREAT boy’s name!!!! I’m gonna have to remember that one! (Hehehehe, YEP!!!!😁 *checks to make sure no one else is listening before whispering* If everything works as planned, it will be coming in June! Of course, you didn’t hear that from me . . . . *lowers cool spy hat and slides out of room*)

Love this list, Katherine!!!! Ah, I love pretty much any ‘E’ boy names πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ Devereaux is suchc a unique name! I think it’s cool! (But I can’t really imagine you being named it! πŸ˜†)

    • Katherine

Thank you so much, Saraina!!!! Ah, cool!! I like a lot of “E” boy names too! They sure sound nice! XD Ah, yes, I agree! Devereaux sounds cool to say it! A side character in Behind the Blade, Without the Wings has that name because my dad named him, lol. (Haha, me neither.πŸ˜‚)

(Also, it just hit me, but your character in “To Be Loved” is named Reed and I had Reed on this list without realizing the connection.πŸ˜‚ We must have a similar taste in names. XD)

Unique names are so much fun! I especially like the name Evander for a future character.

Thanks for the list, Katherine (Hmm, Devereaux…? Naw, you sound more like a Katherine lol.)

    • Katherine

I know, right?! They totally are!! Ah, that would be so cool in one of your books!!! πŸ˜€

You’re so welcome, Lily!!! I’m glad you liked it! (Hahaha, thanks.πŸ˜†)

I’ve been keeping a list of names for boys and girls for years now, which has been fun. I have a pretty extensive spreadsheet. Still not actually sure what the practical use of it is…since I’m not a writer (in the strictest sense of the word). Maybe I’ll turn it into a ‘book of names’ someday. Dunno. πŸ™‚

    • Katherine

Hi, Ella! Oooh, that’s awesome!!!! I agree–keeping a list of names is definitely fun!!! πŸ˜‰ Wow, that’s cool!! (My list is in a tiny notebook, lol.πŸ˜…) Do you have a favorite name from your list you’d like to share? Ah, that’s ok. You don’t have to be a writer for your list of names to be useful, though. I read a book once where a girl collected words for a hobby. πŸ™‚ Ooh, a “book of names” is a great idea!!!! I love it!!!
