World of Silence Blog Tour BOOK REVIEW

Heya, TWNers!!! Thank you for joining me today in part of the blog tour for a NEW BOOK releasing soon!!!!  Without further ado, I give you dee book review for World of Silence! *draws back curtain* *dims lights* *passes around popcorn* *pats Doggie Vicky on the head* (It’s an inside joke… XD)

About the Book:

Silence. Complete silence. That was all I heard.

Fledge Owenby is a deaf archer struggling to be seen for his potential instead of his disability. When forgotten and left behind during a dragon attack, he thinks it is the chance to prove himself that he has been waiting for. But who knew one trip out of the bunker would change everything?

Saved from evil dragons by a dragoness, Fledge wonders why she would help him and soon discovers how similar they are. He is deaf and she is without fire. Drawn together by a bond, not even he can understand, Fledge and Galexia are unwittingly pulled into adventure.

Betrayal of the highest level, deception, and a war that never should have been. Fledge must find a way to end it all while trying to be seen as the boy he is, instead of the disability he has.

The Review:

From the very moment I first heard about my dear ole friend (I almost started writing “old friend” instead of “ole friend” which makes no sense since I think Kayti and I are nearly the same age… so I guess in my subconscious mind, I think I am old. *shrugs* I knew this day would come eventually XD) working on this book, I KNEW this was one I would have to read. And then I had the absolute honor to be a beta reader for it. And then an ARC reader, so all that to say, I have been waiting a very long time to share about this and give this review. (*cough* okay maybe not that long since I just finished my ARC copy this morning… May’s just insane, y’all. Please tell me I’m not the only one who feels this way!) Let’s just dive right in!

Reasons Why You Should Read This Book:

~I give you one word: DRAGONS.

As I so kindly expressed in one of my recent GR reviews, let’s just be real, how can you NOT love a book with dragons in it? Seriously, there is not enough awesome dragon books!! You better believe I was enjoying all the dragon page time! And when they actually RODE THE DRAGONS. Y’all, you can’t tell me that doesn’t sound cool. In my life outside of the blog, I’m secretly a dragon rider.

~Fledge’s cool character traits! This is the first book I’ve ever read with the main protagonist being deaf, and I enjoyed the different representation in it! Not to mention, it was cool how it was pulled throughout the book. Like there were multiple times when I was reading when something would suddenly happen, and it’d scare Fledge AND me at the same time. Then I’d be like, but wouldn’t he have heard that person approaching or something? And then I’d remember that he couldn’t, so basically what I’m trying to say is that the book literally gives the “world of silence” feel. And it was awesome. Seriously, huge brownie points to Kayti for pulling that off!!!

But there’s another cool side to Fledge as well in here. THIS DUDE IS ALSO AN ARCHER!!!!!!

Again, just like the dragons you can’t tell me that ain’t cool!!! Just look at Legolas up there with his bow!! I want more archer dudes in fiction! I’m literally demanding this now. XDD

~The world is a lot of fun to enjoy being in!! Especially when it starts out. You’ve got this war between dragons and men. It’s pretty much destroyed their world. Families have to take shelter in bunkers and every man able to fight needs to help defend Iotla. Which they’re probably going to lose cuz they’re going against THE DRAGONS remember!

And while I can’t say much in this area due to spoilers, the plot twist… wow, didn’t see it comin’! Let’s just say maybe things aren’t exactly as they seem….

~Fledge’s perseverance and determination is just SO admirable!!! And inspiring too!! YOU GO FLEDGE!!!!

~I. Loved. Adara and Drennan (can’t remember how to spell his name but that’s my best shot at it XD). These two were just SUCH awesome side characters to follow Fledge with and I loved how they all became friends near the end. This trio can be indestructible together, I’m tellin’ you. And Drennan’s little chat with Fledge near the end…. y’all, my heart was just a big mushy mess!! It was beautiful!!!

~There’s this certain scene near the end of the book that I can’t talk about because of those pesky spoilers XD but both times when I read it, it just really breaks my heart and I can FEEL Fledge’s emotions so much. As I said, can’t go into much detail, but it’s definitely a reason to read this book!

~This one has less to do with the story, but I just ADORE the book’s title!! It’s so perfect for Fledge’s story. (Though I remember when I was beta reading the book, the song “The Sound of Silence” kept getting stuck in my head. Don’t even ask me how I first heard of that song… it’s a long story. XD)

The Not So Awesome Parts:

~I remember there was a minor thing I was going to put here but I don’t remember what it was. So whatever it was, it must’ve not been that big of a deal to stick out in my mind. Or that could be because I’m writing this at eight o’clock at night…

Overall:

Kayti Phillips’ debut, World of Silence is a moving, chilling read that while geared toward younger audiences is sure to be touching the hearts of all ages! Maybe have a couple of tissues handy… at least, I was in near tears by the end. Y’all it was just a really moving and beautiful ending. *happy tears*

*please note I received a free e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review*

Super huge shout-out to Lily’s post for the tour of which I copied and pasted most of the information cuz nothing’s change since the last blog tour I did and I’m still too lazy to open my email and get the information. XD

That’s all for today, y’all!! Until the next post,

Keep on being awesome and never stop writing,

Issabelle Perry

Ohh, I REALLY want to read this!! Great review!

and I’m guessing that inside joke is about Victoria since she’s the only Vicky i know. I could be wrong, but that’s my guess. And the dog part i have no clue about. XDD *officially fails at trying to interpret inside jokes*

    • Issabelle Perry

YESSSSS IT IS SO GOOD!!!!!!! Thank youuuuu!!! *bows*

Hahaha, girl, you are so good!!! Yes, it was about Victoria. Doggie Vicky was some nickname I gave to her a few months ago, but I don’t remember what we were talking about. I think she was pretending to be a dog or something. XD And I thought she had told me once (but can’t quite remember) that she hated the nickname Vicky… so you know I kinda couldn’t resist. XDD Nah, girl, I’m surprised you got as much as you did!! *hands her official star for almost getting the inside joke*

  • Kaytlin Phillips

Ack! Thank for this super awesome review! Man, I’m laughing, I’m crying, this means so much to me! Glad you enjoyed it!!! Thank you for all your help throughout the process!!!

    • Issabelle Perry

Kayti, you are SOOO welcome!!! Thank YOU for the ARC copy and the chance to beta read for you!!! Hahaha, that’s what I like to hear!!! D’awww, girlie, that just makes me SO happy to hear it means a lot to you!!!! YESSS it was awesome, girl!!!!! You’re super welcome!!!! Thank YOU for letting me be a part of your writing journey!! It’s my deepest honor!!!

      • Ally M.J.

        I wonder, so you remember me…? 🤔

This book sounds really good! Do you think i could find it at my library? Sometimes they’re slow to stick indie authors…

        YES DRAGONSSSSS

        • Issabelle Perry

Girl, OF COURSE I remember you, Ally!!!!! You’re one of TWN’s first readers which means I could never forget you. But it’s awesome to hear from you again!!! How’s life and writing been?

YESSS I AM SO GLAD YOU THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!!! Hmmm honestly probably not. Libraries don’t seem to like stocking indie author books. But you can always try and request it. Some libraries allow that and some don’t. I know my library will let me request some indie author books, but usually only as ebooks.

          DRAGONS FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Ally M.J.

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii 👋 Writing has, somewhat surprisingly, been exceptional. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but my writing has been flawless lately. I’m juggling two books right now- a horror called Once Living, and a fantasy called Servant. Servant has most of my attention at the moment.

I’ve tried requesting some books at my library before, and they have a 50/50 chance of actually getting it. 😒 I’ll definitely try to find it, though!

            • Issabelle Perry

Aaaah, girl, that is SO exciting!!!! I’m so happy to hear that!!!!! Ooooo two books? You’re amazing!!! I can barely handle the one I’ve got. XD AAAAAH THESE BOTH SOUND SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love both of those titles too!!!!! Once Living just sounds so eery and Servant has piqued my interest cuz I’m wondering WHO’s the servant!

Ooof that stinks. Libraries just don’t seem to want to stock the good books. ;P Ooo sounds awesome!!!!

  • Lily

XD (of course, Issabelle! It was my pleasure to provide the tour schedule for you).

Loved the review! (ahh!! Now I want Legolas’s bow…and more archers in stories! I’ll start a petition!)

    • Issabelle Perry

(Hehehehe I owe you SO much, girl. Without you, I would’ve had to go into my email and dig through my emails to find it and that’s a lot of work. XDDD)

THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!!!! (GIRL I NEED A LEGOLAS BOW SO BADLY. Wonder what it’d take to convince my mom to get me one XD. YESSS I WILL SIGN YOUR PETITION!!!!!!!!)

  • Emma

    • Issabelle Perry

YESSSSSSS I AM SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT!!!!!! Must be better at reviews than I thought. XD YES. Girl, those are literally the three best parts of it!!!! YOU DO!!! *tries to give you the book through my computer* D’awww, thank you, Emma!!!! So happy you enjoyed it!!!

Ahhhhh AMAZING REVIEW!!!!!! 😀 YES – it was so cool that there were dragons in it, AND Fledge was an archer!! (Lol, I also had “Sound of Silence” stuck in my mind a few times XD)

    • Issabelle Perry

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH SARAINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES, girl, I know right!!! Like all my favorite things in a story rolled into one!!!!!!! (Hahaha, I literally thought I was the only one who kept thinking of that song, so glad to know I wasn’t!!! 😉 )

  • Ellie

Wow! This sounds like a really cool book!
I found your site awhile back, but this is my first time commenting. This place is amazing, and it’s really cool to know how many other Christian teens there are out there that write! It’s awesome that you guys have a collection of short stories- I read it last week(or the week before🤔), and it’s REALLY good!

    • Issabelle Perry

Yaaaaaay, Ellie, I am SO excited to hear you think so!!! It’s the archer, right? I’m 99.9% certain it’s the archery that’s selling it. XD
Aaaaaah, girl, like, I am SO SO SO SO SO excited to hear all of this!!! You’ve just made my day!!! Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!!! I definitely second that, Ellie! I used to think we were far and few until I started Teen Writers’ Nook!!!! And I’m ALWAYS super thrilled to meet another one so *high fives* *squeals with delight* THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I cannot express how much that means to me and the entire team at Teen Writers’ Nook to hear you loved Imagine THANK YOU for stopping by, and I hope you continue enjoying TWN!!!! *gives you welcome chocolate*

      • Ellie

The archer was DEFINITELY part of it! I also looove middle grade fantasy, even though it’s a bit below my age level, probably because that’s what I write.
Thank you so much for starting this place! It’s so amazing and it’s great to know that there’s other writers out there like me, because I don’t really have any real life friends that write!
Nice to meet you, too! *high fives you back*
You’re welcome! Yeah, Imagine was AMAZING!!!

        • Issabelle Perry

Hahaha I figured as much. XD Ooooo, girl, that is AWESOME!!!! What’s your favorite middle grade fantasy book? (I’m trying to get back into the genre. It’s been a while since I’ve read a ton of MG, and I miss it.) Honestly, I feel like MG is something you can’t truly outgrow. Like I know we get in our mindset that we outgrow it (I know cuz I was that way when I was younger), but what I’ve started realizing is that MG actually has a LOT of literary value in the genre that other books, like YA, really lack. Oops. Didn’t mean for the ramble, lol. XD
Awww, girl, you’re SO welcome!!!! YESSSS!!! Girl, I love that, and I definitely second it!! Yeah, my in real life writer friend number is… zero. XD
EEEEEKKK THANK YOUUUU!!!!! I’m SO thrilled to hear that!!!!!

          • Ellie

Ooh… ummm…*checks bookshelf* The Wingfeather Saga. It’s just amazing, and points to the Lord in a great way! It’s probably one of the only Christian Fiction middle grade books I’ve read(which is why that’s what I write😉)
I get it. I haven’t read a ton of YA, though there’s been a lot more in recent months, but middle grade is definitely amazing. I know that at least one of my series(my favorite, if I’m allowed to pick favorites) will for sure move into young adult and I plan to keep the literary value as high as it is for middle grade(the plan with that series is to cover from my main character a little before her twelfth birthday to when she graduates high school, so there’ll be plenty if ya adventures)
            You’re welcome!!

            • Issabelle Perry

Aaaaaahh I have heard SO many good things about the Wingfeather Saga. (I think it’s my most recommended book XD) I definitely plan to read it soon!!! Just gotta get my hands on a copy. 😉 The book sounds amazing!!!!!! And I’ve never read a Christian fiction middle grade before, so I really need to try this!!!! (YESS!!! I love that!!! Keep writing, girl!)
Yes, definitely!!! Ooo that series sounds awesome, and I think you have a great plan for it! I don’t know about you but I find series so hard to write, so I seriously admire you!!! Best of luck with your writing. <333

  • Ava Coulter

OH THIS LOOKS SO GOOD! Congrats, Kayti!!!
(And I totally agree with you that books with dragons are literally THE BEST.)

    • Issabelle Perry

YESSSS IT IS!!!!!!!!! I mean, it might be cuz of the dragons, but it’s still awesome. ;P YES CONGRATS KAYTI!!!!!!!!!
(YES, GIRL JUST YES. I’m glad to have found a like-minded reader. *high fives*)

  • Corrie.S.P

How is it I want to read all the books you review!!(and pretty much books that anyone reviews excluding bad stuff)
    Gahhh! It sounds beautiful!
“hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again”👩‍🎤🎶🗣️ Opps, excuse me. Have you heard the Simon and Garfunkel version? I first heard that. It is beautiful!
I love crochet too! I’m next starting on a crochet shirt, and bucket hats for my sisters and I.
    Corrie.S.P.

    • Issabelle Perry

AWWWWW, girl, that just made me smile so much. THANK YOU!!! (True. I’m the same way!!!)
      YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! It really is!!!!
Hahaha so I’ve met another gal who’s heard the song. ;P Yes, I have!! That’s actually the only version I’ve heard of the song. One year that was the song my dance group did for our ballet routine, and it was to that version.
OOOOOO girl that is AWESOME!!!!! Crochet is super cool!!!!

  • Addilyn Faustina

Where’s the petition for more archer dudes in fiction!?!? XD
I’m going to try to get this book. *looks for ways to earn money so I can support my book buying habits*
